Hope Furnace

Picture

The Adventure...

The majority of the iron produced in the US from 1830-1900 was produced in Southeast Ohio. The Hope Iron Furnace operated from about 1854 to 1885 producing nearly 15 tons of cast iron per day. Today, the furnace is part of the Lake Hope State Park.
The Legend of Hope Furnace: Once an iron furnace town, the area around Hope Furnace was home to workers for the furnace and their families. Legend has it that a workman fell from the top of the furnace into the fiery depths in the 1800's and a ghost can be seen walking near the top of the furnace carrying a lantern.
