Lake Hope State Park
The Adventure...
Lake Hope State Park is a beautiful, rugged, and heavily-wooded 3,000-acre state park completely surrounded by the majestic Zaleski State Forest. The park is home to several remnants of the iron industry. A majority of the iron produced in the US from 1830-1900 was produced in Southeast Ohio. The Hope Iron Furnace, which is located within the park, operated from about 1854 to 1885 producing nearly 15 tons of cast iron per day. The setting is ideal for photographers, nature lovers, and historians alike. Seventeen miles of hiking trails traverse the lake and scenic woodlands of the Lake Hope area and connect with several trails in the adjacent Zaleski State Forest. A 23-mile single track bike trail also meanders through the park. This trail was chosen as Ohio's top mountain bike trail by readers of "Mountain Bike Magazine." The wooded single track offers plenty of bike riding options. Swimming, fishing, and boating are also popular activities in and along the 120-acre lake (Canoes, kayaks, and rowboats are available for rent. For those who wish to stay the night, Lake Hope offers 66 cottages and 219 campsites
