Miner's Supply Store
The Adventure...
The Miner’s Supply Store is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built around 1880 by John Henry Patterson and his brother Frank, the Miner’s Supply Store in Coalton sold a variety of goods to the area’s miners and their families. The brothers were a huge success, however, they suffered the same fate as many other businesses from this era – their profits were not reflective of the strong sales. The brothers decided to purchase and use an invention by John Ritty – the cash register – to record sales. John Patterson was so impressed with this machine that he purchased the company for $6,000 in 1884. He changed the company’s name to the National Cash Register Company (NCR) and sold the world this innovative business solution.
