Shade River State Forest

Picture

The Adventure...

Shade River State Forest is home to a number of native hardwoods growing on what was formerly abandoned, unproductive farmland. Different species of pines including white, red, and loblolly pine, in addition to many acres of native Virginia pine, shortleaf pine, and pitch pine are present at the park. The forest is open year-round to hunting, hiking, and general sightseeing. Camping, swimming, and fishing are available in nearby Forked Run State Park.
